Salem, Mass – Kernwood Country Club played host to the 2018 Pro-Lady Invitational which featured 38 teams from throughout the New England PGA chapter. The par-70 Donald Ross-designed course borders the Danvers River making for spectacular views on a picture-perfect day to golf in New England.
Each team consisted of one New England PGA professional and one female amateur who is a member of the professionals facility. The format for the event was stroke-play, Select Drive-Alternate Shot.
The 8:00 a.m. shotgun event wrapped up just before 1:00 p.m. and the field of 38 teams entered the clubhouse to submit their respective scores. Dana Smith, PGA, and Meghan Lynch of Presidents GC came out victorious with a gross score of one-over par 71. Despite three bogeys and one double bogey, the pairing of Smith and Lynch put together four excellent birdies including one on the par-5 first hole.
“We had a good strategy going into it and I think the strategy worked,” said Smith, after posting the team score. The pairing of Smith and Lynch have never played a round of golf with each other before this event.
Ian Kelley, PGA and Emily Hess of Blue Hill CC and Danny Kish, PGA and Allison Wilkins of Atkinson Resort came to play as well, firing a two-over 72, falling one shot short.
The team from Beaver Meadow GC with Phill Davis, PGA and Caroline Fang did not go home empty handed. They stamped the only eagle of the day on the par-5 thirteenth.
All players enjoyed a lunch after the round and seemed to enjoy themselves the entire day. Head Professional Frank Dully II and the Kernwood CC staff were perfect hosts.
