Connecticut measures 110 miles from east to west, and just 70 miles from north to south. But despite its small footprint, the state deliver big time in terms of championship golf courses.
NEG’s list of the Top 10 Courses You Can Play in Connecticut offers ten surperbly-conditioned tracks. Three of the facilities offer 36 holes of championship golf, including Lake of Isles, Lyman Orchards Golf Club, and Blackledge Country Club.
If you’re a fan of Geoffrey Cornish designs, our list of the best in the Constitution State has six with Cornish lineage.
Foxwoods, the oldest course on the list, was an original Cornish design (1960). It has been redesigned twice since. Blackledge’s Old Course (Anderson’s Glen) is an untouched (1963) Cornish layout. Mark Mungeam, who learned the trade under Cornish, designed Blackledge’s New Course (Gilead Highlands). Mungeam designed three additional layouts, including the newest (2007), Connecticut National Golf Club.
Wintonbury Hills, a 6,711-yard, par-70 track, is Pete Dye’s first, and only, New England design. Lyman Orchards (Robert Trent) and Lake of Isles (Rees) are a couple of masterpieces by the Jones family.
