Steve Pike Anywhere: Half Moon Resort

Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay sits on 400 acres, with two miles of beachfront, offering rooms with views of the Caribbean Sea, an award-winning spa, 18-hole par-72 championship golf course, an equestrian centre with 28 horses and the Sugar Mill, awarded as Jamaica’s best restaurant.

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA – Half Moon, one of the Caribbean’s more iconic resort that features a Robert Trent Jones, Sr., golf course (routed through an old sugarcane estate), has selected Salamander Hotels & Resorts to manage the award-winning 400-acre property. It’s the first international property managed by Salamander, founded by Sheila Johnson in 2005, that includes the Forbes Five-Star Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, VA; and Innisbrook Resort in Tampa.

The company also operates the new Hotel Bennett in Charleston, S.C; The Henderson, beach resort in Destin, FL; and the recently renovated Hammock Beach Resort, in Palm Coast, FL.

“Since the inception of Half Moon, our team members have injected their hearts and souls into what has become a globally-recognized brand and symbol for gracious Jamaican hospitality, one of the finest experiences in the Caribbean,’’ said Guy Steuart III, chairman of Half Moon. “As we commemorate our 65th anniversary, Half Moon intends to build on its reputation of providing transformative experiences for generations of discerning travelers.’’

Half Moon opened here in 1954 and has hosted royalty, presidents and celebrities. It expanded with the purchase of the neighboring Colony Hotel in 1979 and then with the construction of five-to-seven bedroom villas, which were rebranded in 2018 as Rose Hall Villas By Half Moon.

In addition to the classic Trent Jones golf course, Half Moon features the Fern Tree Spa at Half Moon; equestrian center; 11 flood-lit tennis courts; and the Sugar Mill, regarded as one of Jamaica’s top restaurants.
