Steve Pike Anywhere: Bay Point Golf Club

Bay Point Golf Club offers an unparalleled golfing experience promising to test your accuracy on their fairways, greens, water hazards and sand traps.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Bay Point Golf Club at Sheraton Bay Point Resort – hit hard by Hurricane Michael this past Fall – will re-open The Nicklaus Course at Bay Point for public play on March 1, following extensive cleanup and repairs from the storm. The course, managed by Kemper Sports, is the only Nicklaus Design in Northwest Florida and one of the premier destination golf experiences here in the Florida Panhandle. It will re-open with newly renovated greens and bunkers.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the work our team has put in at Bay Point to get The Nicklaus Course back into playing shape,” said golf General Manager Ryan Mulvey. “It has been a very difficult time for our community since the storm hit in October, but this golf course has been a real rallying point for our team and the work we’ve done has helped provide a sense of normalcy for all of us.”

Hurricane Michael hit Panama City and the eastern tip of Panama City Beach where Bay Point is located as a Category 4 storm on October 10, 2018. Cleanup of the Nicklaus Course included the removal of trees, extensive debris removal and repairs to the clubhouse and cart storage facility. Cleanup and debris removal continue at the almost 50-year-old Meadows Course.

Prior to the storm, the overhaul of The Nicklaus Course, which began June 25, 2018, included the conversion of all 18 greens from Tif-Dwarf Bermuda grass to Ultra-Dwarf Tif-Eagle Bermuda, creating more consistent putting surfaces with a better tolerance for lower mowing heights and faster green speeds year-round. Twenty-three renovated green-side bunkers complement the greens and include sand and drainage throughout, promoting a better playing experience from around the greens

Sheraton Bay Point Resort, set along the historic St. Andrews Bay and the only AAA Four Diamond rated hotel in Panama City Beach, remains closed as it repairs damage from the storm.
