Jeff Seavey & Cole Anderson Capture NEPGA Pro-Am Championship

Amateur Cole Anderson (l) and Samoset Resort Head Pro Jeff Seavey fired rounds of 68-67-135 total of 9-under par at Pinehills Golf Club to win the New England PGA Pro-Am Championship May 28.

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – Jeff Seavey, of Samoset Resort and amateur partner Cole Anderson made 10 birdies and just one bogey through 36 holes to post a winning score of 9-under par at the New England PGA Pro-Am Championship at Pinehills GC on Tuesday May 28.

The duo birdied their first two holes of the day, the 10th and 11th on the Jones Course, and were 4-under after a morning 68. A bogey-free 67 in the afternoon gave them the clubhouse lead, which proved to be enough to win.

“Cole made some great birdies,” Seavey said of his amateur partner after they had clinched the win. “He drove it, most of the time, really long and got us going early with a birdie on the first hole. He stuffed it three or four times and made some easy birdies for us. We both had putts all day long. We were looking at the hole all day.”

The victory validates a tie for first for the pair last year.

David Lane, of Hopkinton Country Club and Jimmy Herbol finished second at 8-under for the tournament. They started their day with a 3-under 69 on the Jones Course and backed it up with a bogey-free 67 on the Nicklaus Course in the afternoon. The team got hot late, making four birdies in a back-nine 32 to close the day, but ran out of holes, finishing one behind the winners.

Pinehills Golf Club, located in “America’s Hometown” Plymouth, Massachusetts, features two public 18 hole championship courses designed by Rees Jones and Nicklaus Design in an area of rolling hills and pine forest, has earned many accolades since opening in 2001 hosted the 2019 New England PGA Pro-Am Championship.

Jeffrey Montelone, of Bellevue Golf Club, and Dan McQueen finished one stroke behind Land & Herbol at 7-under to finish third, making six birdies in an afternoon 67 on the Nicklaus Course to move up the leaderboard after shooting 2-under in the morning.

Todd Scarafoni, of Bass Rocks Golf Club, and amateur partner Matthew Scarafoni overcame a bogey on the par-5 second hole in their early round on the Nicklaus Course with six birdies and no bogeys over their final 16 holes of the morning to tie atop the leaderboard after the early wave at 5-under. Todd and Matthew followed that up with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon to finish the tournament 6-under par.

Kevin Murphy, of Bradford Country Club, and partner Nick Maccario also shot five-under in the first round, doing so on the Jones Course. The pair birdied three of their first four holes, and cancelled a bogey on the fifth with a birdie on the ninth to turn in 33, and added two more birdies on the back nine to post 67. An afternoon 72 gave Murphy & Maccario a total of -5 and tie for fifth overall,
