BLUFFTON, South Carolina – Alex Beach of Stamford, Connecticut, won the 2019 PGA Professional Championship on Wednesday May 1 posting scores of 67-68-73-69-277, 10-under par total, edging Danny Balin of Irvington, New York by two.
Beach leads a group of 20 PGA Professionals who have earned their way to the 2019 PGA Championship, May 16-19, at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York.
A 29-year-old PGA Assistant Professional at Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York, Beach will make his second PGA Championship appearance after his debut in 2017.
Beach leads a contingent of five players from the Metropolitan PGA Section, which counts Bethpage Black as one of its Section facilities. In addition to Beach are: 2019 PGA Professional Championship runner-up Danny Balin of Irvington, New York; Jason Caron of Oyster Bay, New York; Brian Mackey of Chestnut Ridge, New York; and Rob Labritz of Pound Ridge, New York.
Three players will make their sixth appearance in the PGA Championship: Rod Perry of Port Orange, Florida; Rob Labritz of Pound Ridge, New York; and Balin.
Six players competed in a playoff for the final two spots. Andrew Filbert of Naples, Florida, emerged with a birdie on the first playoff hole, while Tyler Hall of Scottsdale, Arizona, secured the final spot with a birdie on the third extra hole.
Nine players will make their PGA Championship debut, while six players will return to the PGA Championship after competing last year.
